In regards to traffic lights. Do away with the "trouble" yellow light. Therefore, red to stop, green to go. This way no one will try to beat either one.
I'm only eight years old but even I know that we shouldn't do away with the yellow traffic light. I mean, you're going 55 m.p.h. and the light goes form green to red. What are you supposed to do, slam on the brakes? Get real.
I'm calling to complain about the yellow garbage bags. They are too delicate to hold people's garbage. Many people have been using scotch tape to hold them together. There must be something that can be done about this problem.
I thinks its awful that the girls who are in training in beauty parlors don't do as the customers ask them to. After all, we are the one who pays for this.
To the person who hit the calico cat on Burbank Avenue on Monday, October 6, at approximately 8:30 a.m. I came by shortly after and saw that cat laying in the road. After I took my son to school, I went back and moved it so it didn't get hit again. You should have stopped and moved it yourself instead of leaving it there in the middle of the road. That was someone's pet. Somehone loved that cat. Take responsibility and drive more safely next time.
To the person who called about the cat being hit. I'm the one who hit the cat. If the cat hadn't been in the street then it wouldn't have been hit. If people love their cats then they should keep them in the house, feed them and keep them warm. Obviously, it was a stray cat. If it wasn't the owners are dumb for letting it go in the street or wandering in public.
I'm calling because I read the comments of someone who bragged about running over a cat with a car. I'm in the area visiting my aunt. I'm a prosecutor and I have prosecuted people like that. By the way, I love the Broome Pennysaver. I wish we had it up in Maine.
I'm a local truck driver. I drive all over, but when I'm within 20 miles of Binghamton I can't pick up the Howard Stern show. I understand the people in Binghamton are real thin skinned about certain types of things, but what's the problem? Why can't we get Howard Stern in Binghamton?
I was calling in about the trucker who asked about Howard Stern. He is on every night in Binghamton at 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
This is my two cents worth on the garbage pickup in all of the villages. I live in Johnson City. When you put your garbage out, they drop it on the road or the lawn and they leave it. Isn't our tax dollar working the right way?
I don't understand why rich people get freebies. Celebrities get to stay in hotels free. If they model clothes, they get the clothes for free. It doesn't make sense. Why do people who are rich get things for free and the people who are poor don't get anything? The rich people have the money to buy things. Why do they always get freebies?
This is in regard to the person that picked up the CVS bag in Boscov's on Monday. There were medications and toothbrushes in the bag and they were specified for an older person. How could you have the nerve not to return that bag to the office!
I would like to complain about something. People who burn their garbage should take into account their neighbors, especially during hot humid days when people have their windows open, fans going, and their clothes out on the line. We don't like to walk around smelling like garbage when it's been absorbed by our wet clothes, nor do we want our houses to smell like it. Pleae just wait until after dark to burn your trash so it's cool enough to close our windows.
I would like to give my 2¢ worth. When you go into a grocery store it would be very considerate of people to take their grocery carts and put them to one side or the other of the aisle and not in the middle where people can not get through.
This is to all people who shop: Please be courteous enough to have your money all in one spot instead of going through three and four different change purses to pay the cashier and hold up the line.
I'm writing to the person who owns a brown Siamese cat. It was in my backyard. My two dogs wanted to go out to the bathroom. I let them out not knowing the cat was there. They attacked your cat. Had there been a leash law, or you decided to treat your cat nice enough to keep it at home, this would not have happened. But again, I apologize.
I'm a truck driver in Binghamton, I drive up Route 88, 81 and 17 and all I see along the road sides are these soda bottles and gallon containers full of a yellow substance. And dead deer that are along sides of these roads. I have been driving up and down these roads for months and months and the same deer are there just wasting away. Don't they have people who clean these thing up. What are we paying our state dollar for?
I'm calling in regard to the fact that there is such a thin line between the town of Union and the village of Endicott. One end of my street is the town of Union and the other end is the village of Endicott. I feel that it is very difficult for us to get any police protection because of the fact that we have to call the sheriff or the state troopers to get help. And it usually takes 45 minutes to tan hour to get any help from them. The Endicott police could be here within a matter of minutes. It's also difficult because we pay NYSEG on our half of the street and down on the other block they pay the village electric. I feel that this is ridiculous and if anybody feels the same way what can we do to change these actions that the town and the village are such a thin line. If anybody has any suggestions please call in and let me know.
I just wanted to know if anybody ever noticed how out of hand Telemarketing is in this area. These people interrupt your meals, sleep and work. They call you back if you hang up on them. They continue to call you after you tell them not to call even though it's illegal because some of them are shady businesses that even after you write the address the phone company tells you to write to stop Telemarketing, they still don't stop because they don't belong to that association. I have a little suggestion to those of us who are like me feel victimized by the people. I keep a little whistle that I bought right on my telephone cord. When these people disturb me, I let them have it. I say let them have it. They deserve it.
I'm calling in response to the person or persons who hit a tan dog by CFJ Park on 8/23/96 at approximately 4:30 in the afternoon in front of a group of kids and never even stopped. How could you not stop? For your information the dog died. I hope you can sleep tonight or any night after you read this.
I think it's a wonderful idea that children have access to phones so that they can contact their parents or any other professionals in the case of an emergency. However, I think parents need to trade their children properly and make them aware that the phone is not a toy. I had a fourteen year old cal my home and identify herself as her genital parts. I think that's a pretty sad comment on the type of training that the parents have provided. I think that fourteen year olds should know better. They should know that the phone is for emergencies for the means of communication not a way to harass other people.
I'm calling about the people who ride their bikes on the sidewalk. This is a serious problem especially with the elderly and children. They ride their bikes at full speed as if they were on a race track. It there isn't a law against riding bicycles on the sidewalk, there should be.
Just calling to ask, why are children allowed in Bingo games? They are disruptive, they ruin the game for us people who go there to get a night away. We'd like to see Bingo become an adult game. No one under 18.
For the last few weeks I have been reading your column and cannot understand why the citizens of Broome County can't devote this worthwhile column to a more worthy topic than wether inmates are receiving dessert or not. I feel that the inmates are guilty of crimes. I think that the desserts and the quality of desserts according to my clients, are more than worth the punishment. It's all part of the punishment. I think it is really silly. I think these young en and women are in jail and are being punished. The food is not tavern on the green or anything. I's atrocious and inedible. I think the citizens of Broome County can rest assured that the prisoners are getting their just desserts.
I just saw a commercial on television for a sport utility vehicle for $28,000. I just paid $40,000 for a house. Why is the housing market dropping where your average person can't even afford a brand new vehicle. Something is wrong in the United States. I'd like to know what it is.
I'm calling bout the Binghamton police officers. I notice that they spend quite a bit of time during their working hours parked outside of local donut shops rather than paying attention to the issues that are going around the area and doing their jobs. I've noticed that this area is starting to look more like Brooklyn, New York than Broome County. There's lots of drug addicts on the streets and lots of alcoholism problems going on in the area. I really feel that these cops need to spend more time on the beat addressing problems in the area than socializing with on another at donut shops.
In response to that article about people on welfare not being able to get jobs. It's funny how there seems to be enough couches in this world for you to sit on.
This is in response to people talking in movie theaters while the movies are playing. I feel that sometimes people might not understand what's going on during the movie so they might have to ask questions. That's normal. If this individual has that much of a problem with this, maybe they should buy a VCR and join a local video club. That might be a good solution to his or her problem.
I'm calling in response to customer service. I just got done dealing with a car rental agency. Their customer service was the worse that I dealt with in a long time. I got done using one of their cars which was a finely tuned car. They were pushing away a customer which I helped and asked a question about giving her a free ride. Then all of a sudden I get this attitude from them like they own me and I'm not the customer. I was very polite when I asked them the question and they gave them the attitude. Watch out for management in service. It really stinks.
Parents start having rules and make sure your kids understand them.
