I'm calling because of people who don't have enough respect for their neighbor's to keep their dogs on a leash. In Johnson City my neighbor has a German Spepherd. It's a nice dog, but it's enthusiastic. It just runs out of the house and comes over and urinates all over everything. It jumps on you and it's urinating. These people don't keep the dog on a leash. I think that everyone should keep dogs on a leash.

I'm calling because it's barely two or three weeks into Spring and these ice cream trucks are already on my block. They just sit in front of the house with the bell ringing. They sit there much too long. The kids are spending time with the ice cream man instead of spending time in school.

I'm calling because I was in Rec Park in the Triple Cities. Some clown is walking around there with a blue parrot on his shoulder. This person thinks it's funny to teach the parrot bad words to say. Children like to see the bird and then the parrot is just cursing and all kinds of garbage is coming out of this parrot's mouth. I just want to say I don't think that's right. Maybe you shouldn't bring that bird out in public because it's a dirty bird.

I am getting fed up with idiotic commercials about female functional problems such as periods and yeast infections. After all, they never did make many commericials about men's jock itch. I'm getting sick and tired of all these little feminine problems. Every time you tun around there's a commercial about it.

I would just like to say that I am a working person as are many people in this area. When I am going to or from work it makes me sick to see all of these people who supposedly can't work and have to live off welfare walking up and down the streets, sitting out on their porches and staying up until all hours of the night. Unless there is a legitimate reason why you cannot work, I don't see why you can't go and find a job. My message to all of you people who choose to accept welfare as a way of life instead of finding a real job is to get off of your rear ends and get up and do something with yourselves.

This is for the person that hit and killed a dog on New Street in Appalachin on March 23rd. The dog was a long awaited pet. He was part of the family and will be missed. You were uncaring to hit him and just drive away.

Why can handicapped parking spaces in New York State be occupied by only the handicapped?

OPRC 3/22/98

Who do you call if you know someone is skipping school and what will happen?

OPRC 3/22/98

Stop the N.A.S.A. program. The space ships are hurting our great heaven and causing trouble to our earth. Our Americans are at a great loss of homes, cars, even people lost their lives. I have been watching this go on since the people that died in space. The money they save by not having space ships could go to the people to rebuild their homes, besides help the farmers. No loans. Just give the money.

I pay the highest taxes in Apalachin and I want to know why my street wasn't plowed first. I'm very upset.

Why don't the police stop and arrest people for walking and pushing shopping carts. These carts are stolen proerty and this problem has not been resolved. The public works department has to pick up all of these abandoned carts.

I live in Binghanton. All of the grocery stores here are out of medium garbage bags for the city. It forces us the buy the large bags. We don't have that kind of money. They no longer make small bags. Is this a conspiracy to make us pay more dollars into the system by buying large bags?

Where are people supposed to go to buy wigs when they lose their hair due to chemotherapy? Mail order is a bad idea.

OPRC 2/22/98

I think it's a terrible thing that the State wants to change the level of D.W.I. from a .10 to a .08. What's the working man going to do when he can't stop after work and have four or five beers and drive home without being harassed by the police? I've only got two D.W.I.'s in twenty years and that's not a lot. I don't think the State should be doing that. It's not fair and it's not right.

What a pity the preteens in Owego have nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon than moon passersby. On February 1st, my husband and I were driving through Owego on Front Street. On the south side of the street, just east of the Legion, a red headed male with a rather wide posterior, showed us the cheeks that he should better have left covered. This was in broad daylight. Where was this juvenile's parents?

I'm calling about taking soap operas off the air for special reports. The soap operas are not repeated where the news will be on a dozen times in the evening. I wish there was some way we could make the networks stop doing that to us.

2/5/98

REPLY:

To the person complaining about soap operas being preempted. Most of them are no good with no morality and nothing to learn but immoral lifestyles.

This may sound stupid, but I have a suggestion for smokers. Those who want to smoke, swallow the smoke, don't blow it out. Then the rest of us can breathe.

My comments are about the wrestling that is on T.V. It is unbelievable. It is totally fake. I can't believe that these people can actually fill an arena. And you wonder why kids are the way they are today? Just turn on the T.V. and you'll see this stuff. It is totally ridiculous. It just shows cheating, backstabbing and violence. I can't believe that they actually air this on cable.

To all parents: If your children can be swayed by anything they see or hear then you are not doing your job.

When people get other people's mail they should put it in the correct persons mailbox or give it back to the mailman. They shouldn't open it at all.

I was recently in a department store and witnessed a child being caught stealing. Where are the parents of these children?

I would like to address all of the drivers that drive up and down South Apalachin Road. A while back my daughter's cat was hit on purpose. It was waiting at the bus stop with my daughter, my son and myself when a pickup sped by and intentionally went off the road and hit her in front of my five and two year old.

OPRC 1/18/98

I recently heard that a driver who hits a cat must now report the incident to the police. It also should include wildlife such as deer, rabbits, squirrels, frogs and worms.

Could someone explain to me why the concept of an outdoor dog is acceptable? The outdoor dog barks for hours on end disturbing people for miles while the owners are not even home.

This is to the person seeking assistance with nicotine patches. Come on, get real. If you could afford to pay for cigarettes for years, I'm sure that you can afford to pay for nicotine patches now.

Many of us visit the buffet restaurants in the area which are very fine. Why do you lick your fingers at the buffet area and the dessert area? It is a very filthy habit and your saliva and bacteria goes on my serving utensils and others serving utensils. This is a very dangerous habit. I, for one, do not want your bacteria, especially in today's world.

I was wondering why the drive up banking machines have braille on the buttons you push to make transactions with?

OPRC 12/7/97

I would like to address this comment to the morons who tried to steal my wife's cellular phone out of her car at the Candor High School on November 28th. Are you aware that a stolen cellular phone is of absolutely no use to anyone? You cannot use it.

OPRC 12/7/97

I'd like to respond to the person who had all of the answers to anyone who had a complaint in the column this week. My response is the only thing worse than listening to a whiner whine about a whiner is reading about a whiner complaining about whiners.

I think the people in Endwell should push for their own zip code. Many times you are asked for your zip code when you order something or are being billed for something. They come back with your address as Endicott. It's time we have our own zip code in Endwell as we have a post office and have our own identity.

I'd like to comment on that woman who commented about her parking handicap. She sure can talk the talk but she can't walk the walk. I use a handicapped sticker and it's not because I "might" have a heart attack. It's proven that I might have. She hasn't proven anything. She's pregnant. Big deal. I walk the walk and I talk the talk. I'm sixty years old and I just got one. Just because the woman is pregnant, those parking places are going to be awful crowded.

My mother lives on Cadiz Road. On Wednesday, October 29th at 3:29 p.m. her white angora cat of nine years was still part of her life. At 3:30 p.m. that part of her life was gone. I hope the person speeding down the road that day reads this. You know who you are. You must have oil for blood, exhaust for brains, and a heart the size of a ball bearing.

OPRC 11/16/97

This is in response to the person who called in about the new Social Services building. I'd like to say that the idea of painting sunflowers on the wall is silly. This is not an art museum, this is welfare. Maybe she should be more concerned about finding herself a job and getting off welfare than about whether we have nice flowers or sunsets on the wall. It's a place of business. I don't think Social Services should do anything to welcome the people who are on it. They should be grateful that they have a check.

11/13/97

This is in response to the woman who called in about being verbally harassed in the post office parking lot. That has happened to me and my wife on a number of occasions. I've almost had to beat up a number of people in this town because they have no manners. I'm not really a violent person, but when they talk out of turn to my wife, I feel that I want to hit them hard. The people in this town need to be gentlemen and ladies and we better respect each other.

I'm a college student. I go to SUNY Binghamton. I'm calling because I was walking on Main Street one night and four men came out of a bar. They were drunk and they chased me for no reason. I don't know what I did to them. I'd like to say to the four men that I don't know who you are and I never did anything to you. I'd also like to thank the police officers in Binghamton because if they hadn't driven by those four men would have gotten me and who knows what they would have done. They were very drunk and I was very frightened. I came up here to study computer science. I'm wondering if the whole town is like this of whether the bar should have served them liquor when they were visibly intoxicated.

11/13/97

I'm calling because I live in Broome County and I'm damned upset. We have a lot of college students and tourists who come up here to help the local economy. When they are on Main Street, which is very beautiful, what do they have to see? They see some idiots standing on a park bench and yelling at the top of their voice. I don't know what they are yelling about. They yell and frighten these people with police officers right there. The police don't do anything to stop this. It gives the town a very bad image.

11/13/97

I just learned a very, very hard lesson. That lesson is the definition of a phony and that is someone who walks around showing off big wads of money, but does not pay their bills nor their rent. Just thought I'd pass that on.

10/30/97

REPLY:

I'd like to respond to the person who called in and said that I was a phony and that I walk around flashing big wads of money. Let me tell you something. I do go around showing off my money because I work for it. I take care of my kids and I don't appreciate people saying that I don't work hard and that I'm phony and that I have wads of money and all of this nonsense.
